LVL3 Gallery in Chicago is currently hosting an excellent two person show on the theme of self-portraiture, self-concept, and self-discovery titled "How One Becomes What One Was." The exhibition includes drawings, found art, and paintings.
An outstanding piece is a sculpture by Bruno Smith made of found scorched wood and a wig, tied to stones. It is a striking self-portrait of the artist. The figure is life size. How to write a poem that is as vulnerable and as potent as this self-portrait?
